Project: Marine Exterior Upholstery
A functional area to lounge around with family and guests incorporating veritable position hinging backrests on all day beds. A modern clean appearance was essential.
What was the purpose of this project? What did the client request?
The owner started with a request to create three lounge areas on the front deck and a pair of king-size day beds, each with twin hinging backrests. He was that impressed with the results, the project then evolved to add two more single-size day beds with hinging backs. It then evolved more and the request was to fill in the rest of the deck area. Then came, add drink holders to slide into the track around the outer edge. And then more platforms for the champagne holders. Then the addition of slide on pillow’s for the back rests of the beds. The fabric & vinyls were all chosen be the interior decorators.
What is unique or complex about the project?
The progressive designing was interesting to say the least. All the base components were made with a combination of 1″ Stardboard & 1″ Thermo- lite Board. The backrest hinges and tracks needed to be routed into the base boards, to create a seamless look, for the all over storage covers. This cover was to have no attaching clips in the deck or sides of the cushions. The cover fitted with removable Kdar strips with zips attached. The crew unzip the covers and slide the Kdar strips out for presentation when the owner is on board.
What were the results of the project?
The Skipper and more importantly the owner were stunned with the results. The comfort levels specified and designs were better than expected. The whole area surpassed all expectations, including the hinging back rests.
